Here’s some tips on how you can get it right!

1. Keep Your Design Simple

✅ Stick to clean, simple shapes.
✅ Complex, tiny details might not cut cleanly.

2. Use Thick Enough Paper

✅ 300gsm or thicker paper/cardstock works best for crisp die cuts.
✅ Thin papers may tear or not hold the shape well.

3. Include a Die Line

✅ Provide a separate die line (also called a “cut line”) in your file.
✅ Make it a spot colour (like 100% magenta) and clearly label it “CUT” so the printer knows where to cut.

4. Allow for Bleed and Safe Zones

✅ Extend the background at least 3mm past the die line (bleed).
✅ Keep important text/images 5mm inside the cut line (safe zone) to avoid trimming errors

5. Avoid Thin or Fragile Areas

✅ Ensure no part of the design is too narrow—it might snap or bend.
✅ Keep small bridges (connections between parts) strong enough to hold together.

6. Consider How It Will Be Used

✅ For packaging, test how the shape folds, holds weight, and functions.
✅ For cards or labels, ensure the final piece is easy to handle.

7. Choose the Right Finish

✅ Gloss, matte, or soft-touch lamination can be added after die cutting—but tell your printer if special coatings are needed before the die process!

✅ For big runs or complex shapes, ask for a sample cut to check the final result before full production.

✅ Custom dies cost extra—sometimes a one-time fee, sometimes reusable.
